Importance of Family...A family legacy

My great grandmother lived to be 103 years old. I had the great privilege of getting to know her and loving her. She was able to come to my wedding and meet my first two children. She and my great grandfather had 5 children together, one with special needs and somehow managed to keep the family together.
My great grandmother led an amazing trial filled life and lived and loved to the fullest. My great grandfather died in the year 1980 and my great grandmother remained strong in her relationships with his family, which is amazing because he had 5 biological siblings, 4 half siblings and 2 step siblings. In my family tree research I have made contact with descendants of all of these individuals, and they all knew and speak highly of my great grandmother. Family was so important to her.
When my great grandma was on her deathbed, she told her children that in order to honor her life and memory, they needed to keep the family together. Since then, the family has gotten together one time per month for a "family breakfast". Although it is difficult to get all of the family together every month, it has been an honor for me to attend, meet and continue relationships with my extended family. After all, they are family!
